“Like a brilliant mad scientist of dance, Victor Quijada has mixed forms and styles and emerged with a gorgeous hybrid of hip-hop, contemporary dance and ballet that transcends its parts and becomes something entirely new.”
– Art and Culture Maven
“It’s beautiful and harsh at the same time; physical, edgy and deeply urban… and an exciting glimpse of the dance scene.” – Sky Barnhart, Centerpiece
The cutting-edge energy of hip-hop, meshed with the beauty and discipline of ballet, creates a new and exciting style. Under the choreographic direction of Victor Quijada, himself a master of both forms, this Montréal company presents Vic’s Mix, a compilation that explores a variety of musical styles from pop to salsa to classical, including the stunning interpretation of Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knights from Romeo and Juliet. Recognized as a magnetic, innovative, and charismatic dancer who performed with Tharp, Ballet Tech and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Quijada has created works for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, BODYTRAFFIC, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Scottish Dance Theatre.
